How to use this calculator

  1. Pick your start date — this day is not counted.
  2. Pick your end date — this day is included in the count.
  3. Choose the UK region so the right bank holidays are applied.

How the calculation works

  • Every date after the start date up to and including the end date is checked in turn.
  • Saturdays and Sundays are excluded.
  • Dates that appear in the bank holiday list for the selected region are excluded.
  • Bank holidays are stored as data, so the list can be updated each year without changing how the tool works.

Frequently asked questions

Are bank holidays working days?

Not in this calculation. Bank holidays for the selected region are excluded along with weekends.

Is the start date included?

No. Counting begins the day after the start date, which is the usual convention for business day counts.

Do Scottish bank holidays differ?

Yes. Scotland has 2 January and St Andrew's Day, and its summer bank holiday falls in early August rather than late August.
